ACS Foundation Hosts Regional Luncheon in DC

February 20, 2024

On February 10, the American College of Surgeons Foundation held a reception at the ACS Washington Office for distinguished donors and supporters from the Capitol area. The luncheon, hosted by ACS Executive Director & CEO and Foundation President Patricia L. Turner, MD, MBA, FACS, and Foundation Chair Danny Robinette, MD, FACS, brought together more than 30 ACS Fellows and prominent ACS leaders.

During remarks to the Foundation’s guests, Dr. Turner spoke about the vital role the ACS Foundation and its donors play in supporting the College: “The ACS Foundation extends all the work that we do. With your help, we have put a firm foundation under global surgery, educating the public, and helping surgeons grow and thrive.”

The ACS Foundation was founded in 2005 to raise funds in support of ACS initiatives that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to pursue. These include volunteerism, scholarships, and public education that, combined, have greatly advanced the quality of surgical care in the US and worldwide. In the past year, the Foundation has helped move forward the efforts of programs, including ACS H.O.P.E., STOP THE BLEED, Future Trauma Leaders, and recently secured a $1 million gift from esteemed donors Peter and Marshia Carlino to research surgical adhesions.

“We see the Foundation as an instrument of progress—one that will continue to grow, allowing our programs to enhance the field of surgical care, which in turn has immediate benefits to the lifechanging work of our Fellows,” said Foundation Director Beth White Carona, CFRE. “A gift to the Foundation is ultimately a gift to the betterment of surgical practice, as well as to optimal care for surgical patients on a global scale.”
