Rural Surgery

The Advisory Council for Rural Surgery was established in 2012 and consists of representatives from the Board of Governors, the Advisory Council for General Surgery’s Committee on Rural Surgery, Regents, and Members-at-Large. The Advisory Council for Rural Surgery is a committee of the Board of Regents.

The mission of the Advisory Council for Rural Surgery is to identify, investigate, and rectify the challenges of rural surgical practice. Development of broad-based training rural residency tracks as well as support for rural surgeons including recruitment, retention, mentoring, and post-residency education are inherent in its endeavor to assure quality surgical care for rural patients. All efforts of the council reflect the ACS’ commitment to assure quality surgical care for potentially 60 million rural patients.
