Julie A. Freischlag, MD, FACS, FRCSEd(Hon), DFSVS, is an esteemed vascular surgeon. Dr. Freischlag is chief executive officer (CEO) of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, Winston-Salem, dean of Wake Forest University School of Medicine, and chief academic officer of Atrium Health.
A Fellow of the College since 1991, Dr. Freischlag has been a leader within the organization in many roles. She has been a committed surgeon-scientist throughout her career, with a focus on vascular surgery and the diagnosis and treatment of thoracic outlet syndrome.

Dr. Freischlag was installed as the 2021−2022 President of the American College of Surgeons at the virtual Clinical Congress 2021 Convocation, Sunday, October 24. In her Presidential Address, Dr. Freischlag acknowledged the toll the COVID-19 pandemic has taken on surgeons and patients and posited that surgeons can move forward by applying the principles of enhanced recovery after surgery.
