- Address comprehensively the educational needs in surgery for medical students during all four years of medical school
- Support educational efforts that facilitate the transition from medical school to residency training
- Play a pivotal role in developing and implementing new and innovative educational programs to address general competencies in the third-year surgery clerkships and fourth-year rotations
- Make available a spectrum of innovative educational programs and materials to the medical students
- Establish a national mentoring program for medical students to complement mentoring available within the respective schools
- Promote and support surgery interest groups at various medical schools
- Provide helpful information and guidance to medical students interested in surgical careers
- Facilitate the involvement of medical students in the educational activities of the American College of Surgeons (ACS)
- Support the involvement of surgery faculty members in the medical school curricula of all four years
- Support efforts to recruit the best candidates to medical school
- Work closely with other organizations to achieve the optimum educational outcomes
- Monitor the outcomes of educational programs
