History and Archives Committee

The mission of the History and Archives Committee (HAC) is to advance, promote, sustain and expand the recognition, appreciation, presentation, preservation and study of American surgical history; to stimulate and to facilitate research and other scholarly activities on this subject; to enhance our resources for this endeavor; and to incorporate the study and appreciation of surgical history into the surgical curriculum and its application to future goals.

Programs

The History and Archives Committee runs several different programs to increase awareness and generate interest in surgical history. Current programming includes the following:

  • Clinical Congress programs focused on surgical history
  • ACS Archives Fellowship
  • HAC Young Surgeons Essay Contest
  • Surgical history education modules for medical students and residents
