Committees

Surgical Research Committee

The mission of the Surgical Research Committee is to support and promote surgical research to drive innovation in patient care and advance the field to ensure optimal clinical outcomes. Committee responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Promote the progress of academic surgery.
  • Advocate for the integration of cutting-edge research into surgical practice.
  • Identify and support funding opportunities for surgical research.
  • Guide the strategic direction of research initiatives to address key challenges in patient care.
  • Represent the ACS in interactions with the NIH.
  • Address issues pertinent to surgical research and peer review processes.
  • Foster collaboration among academic and clinical researchers.
  • Represent the interests of surgical researchers within the ACS and at national forums.

Surgical Research Committee Roster

Activities

The committee proposes S. Ravdin Lecturers for presentation at Clinical Congress.

The committee administers the Jacobson Promising Investigator Award. The award was established to recognize outstanding surgeons engaging in research, advancing the art and science of surgery, and demonstrating early promise of significant contribution to the practice of surgery and the safety of surgical patients.
