This position serves a one-year term.
Duties

Serve as an ex officio member of the Board of Regents.
Serve as an ex officio member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Regents.
Serve as an ex officio member of the Finance Committee.
Serve as an ex officio member of the Board of Governors.
Serve as a key spokesperson in enunciating and advocating the official policies and positions of the College.
Have discretion in accepting official speaking engagements and official visits and shall seek. advice and counsel of the Chair of the Board of Regents and the Executive Director in evaluating acceptance of same.
Preside at all meetings of the Fellows (Members) of the College.
Preside at all Convocations for the conferring of Fellowships.
Perform such other duties incident to the office of President and as may be assigned by the Board of Regents.

President-Elect
How Do I Get Nominated?
Any Fellow can nominate a Fellow for President-Elect. Self-nominations are also accepted.
A call is placed in the Bulletin every November/December announcing nominations for Officers of the College.
Nominations are finalized by the Nominating Committee of the Fellows.
Elected by the Fellows at the Annual Business Meeting of the Fellows during the annual Clinical Congress.
Terms
This position serves a one-year term.
Duties
Attends, ex officio and without the right to vote, all meetings of the Board of Regents except executive sessions, unless otherwise entitled by Regental status or by special invitation of the Board of Regents.
Attends, if invited, at the discretion of the Chair of the Board of Regents, ex officio and without the right to vote, unless otherwise entitled by Regental status, the meetings of the Executive Committee of the Board of Regents.
Attends all meetings of the Finance Committee.
Serves as a spokesperson in enunciating and advocating the official policies and positions of the American College of Surgeons.
Develops a theme for his or her presidency.
May be asked to speak at various chapter meetings.

Three in-person meetings per year in conjunction with the Board of Regents.
First Vice-President
The First Vice-President, in the absence or inability of the President to act as such, preside at all meetings of the Fellows (Members) of the College and perform the duties and exercise the powers of the President, and will succeed to the presidency if such office becomes vacant before the expiration of the term, and will be invited to attend all meetings of the Board of Regents except executive sessions (to which this officer may be invited by the Board of Regents).
How Do I Get Nominated?
Any Fellow can nominate a Fellow for First Vice-President-Elect. Self-nominations are also accepted.
A call is placed in the Bulletin every November/December announcing nominations for Officers of the College.

The First Vice-President fills in for the role of President if the President is unable to do so.
Attends meetings when the President is unable to accept and shall represent the College as its third highest-ranking official.
Attends three Member Services Liaison Committee (MSLC) meetings per year which are held in conjunction with the Board of Regents meetings. MSLC meetings are held for one-half day on Friday mornings.
May be asked to speak at various chapter meetings.

Three in-person meetings per year in conjunction with the Board of Regents.
Second Vice-President
The Second Vice-President will, in the absence or inability to act of the President and of the First Vice-President, preside at all meetings of the Fellows of the College and perform the duties and exercise the powers of the President and shall be invited to attend all meetings of the Board of Regents except executive sessions (to which this officer may be invited by the Board of Regents). The Second Vice-President succeeds to the First Vice-Presidency if the First Vice-President succeeds to the Presidency or is otherwise unable to serve.

How Do I Get Nominated?

Terms
An initial three-year term and may serve a maximum of two (2) three-year terms.
Duties
Oversees the minutes of the meetings of the Members, give notices in accordance with the provisions of law and the Bylaws, keep the records and corporate seal, and perform such other duties as may from time to time be assigned by the Board of Regents.
Works with designated staff members to assure that the official minutes of meetings accurately reflect the discussion of the Board of Regents.
May be asked to speak at various chapter meetings.

Three in-person meetings per year in conjunction with the Board of Regents.
Treasurer
How Do I Get Nominated?
The Board of Regents annually selects the Treasurer.
Terms
An initial three (3)-year term and may serve a maximum of two (2), three-year terms.
Duties
Oversees, in conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer, the funds of the College under the supervision of the Finance Committee, and shall make such reports to the Finance Committee, the Executive Committee of the Board of Regents, and the Board of Regents as may be required by them.
Has a reporting relationship to both the Finance Committee and the Executive Director.
May be asked to speak at various chapter meetings.

Chair of the Board of Regents
How Do I Get Nominated?
The Board of Regents annually elects a Regent to act as Chair of the Board.
Terms
This position serves a one-year term.
Duties
Preside at all meetings of the Regents and execute all duties delegated by the Regents.
Maintain an effective working relationship with the Vice-Chair, other Regents, Officers, and the staff.
Provide leadership to the B/R.
Plan board meetings/agendas.
Direct strategic planning every two-three (2-3) years.
Ensure that the Board receives proper information.
Ensure that all Regents contribute to the overall governance of the College.
Drive discussion toward consensus.
Act as the leadership representative for governance and policy issues.
May be asked to speak at various chapter meetings.

Three in-person meetings per year in conjunction with the Board of Regents.
Vice-Chair of the Board of Regents
