ACS Statements represent positions of the organization on topics ranging from clinical care, education and training, public safety, physician behavior, and health policy. Statements are created by various groups within the College that represent the membership. These groups the Board of Regents, Board of Governors, Advisory Councils for the surgical specialties, the Young Fellows Association, the Resident and Associate Society and various committees across the College.
All ACS Statements are reviewed and approved by the Board of Regents and are evaluated regularly for continued relevancy.
The ACS Statements on Principles is a guiding document that describes the commitment of the College to support the safe and ethical practice of surgeons in an equitable environment free of discrimination. The Statements on Principles describes the Code of Professional Conduct, the Qualifications of Surgeons, and the relationship between the surgeon and patient. This broad document encompasses the values of the College and the standards to which members are held.
