Health information technology (HIT) is an increasingly important facet of health care policy. The exchange of digital health information is rapidly expanding, and more and more, technology is being used to enhance the delivery and quality of care. These important advances also raise privacy, security, and interoperability challenges. The American College of Surgeons (ACS) is actively engaged with Congress to ensure that HIT is effectively leveraged to improve care for surgical patients while maintaining important quality, security, and privacy standards.
