Scope of Practice

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) supports the directive that surgery should be performed by surgeons. Decades of efforts by non-physician health care providers to expand their scope of practice further into medicine continue to be considered in many state legislatures. The ACS remains committed to working with our partners in the surgical community to ensure that patients receive surgical care by surgeons.
