Mastery in General Surgery Program

Mastery in General Surgery Program

Now in Our 10th Year!

The ACS has developed a program for new surgeons who have completed residency and are entering into the practice of general surgery. Now in our 10th year, the Mastery in General Surgery (Mastery) Program supports the transition to independent practice in general surgery through:

  • Building autonomy, decision-making, and clinical skills
  • Developing experience in practice management, leadership, and quality improvement
  • Teaching the business of medicine
  • Launching your career in general surgery

Bulletin Article on Mastery Program

Preston R. Miller III, MD, FACS, Medical Director of the Mastery in General Surgery Program, was published in the ACS Bulletin for July/August. He details the challenges facing General Surgery and how the Mastery Program is positioned to help alleviate these issues. Also outlined are the new initiatives and enhancements added to the program to address these challenges.

Dr. Preston Miller Discusses the Mastery Program on BOSS Podcast

Recently, Dr. Preston Miller, Medical Director for the Mastery in General Surgery Program, sat down for a discussion with Dr. Amy Vertrees for the Business of Surgery Series (BOSS) podcast. The two discussed the Mastery in General Surgery Program’s role in providing advanced, postgraduate training for surgeons interested in General Surgery as a career as well as providing nonclinical training to young surgeons to prepare them for independent practice.

Meet and Greet at Clinical Congress

Join Dr. Preston Miller, Medical Director, 11:30 am–12:30 pm on Monday, October 21, at the Education booth in ACS Central, found in the Exhibit Hall. Dr. Miller will field questions and offer insights from running the program at Wake Forest. Learn more about this one-year program designed for graduating residents pursuing general surgery.
