The ACS Division of Education and its Surgical Ergonomics Committee are now offering to bring the ACS Surgical Ergonomics Hands-on Clinic to your institution.
The ACS Surgical Ergonomics On-Site Training program aims to provide participants with surgical ergonomics-related lectures and a hands-on ergonomic training experience for participants. The on-site training program will begin with a 3 to 4-hour didactic session where surgical ergonomics subject matter experts will describe the risks associated with bad ergonomics in the operating room, evidence-based ergonomic interventions, and discuss overcoming the cultural barriers required to implement change. Participants will then be invited to join one of several 1-hour small group hands-on sessions at four separate stations: laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery, open surgery, and exercise. Each surgical station will feature a simulated environment where ergonomic coaches will guide participants on how to adjust their OR components and postures in alignment with the ACS Surgical Ergonomics Recommendations. At the exercise station, participants will learn various stretching and strengthening exercises that can be implemented within and outside of the OR to promote musculoskeletal wellness. Over the course of the hour, participants will be able to attend the surgical ergonomics stations relevant to their surgical practice.
By the end of this on-site training, learners will be able to:
