Resident Advisor to the American Board of Surgery Research Committee (3 positions open)

Vascular Surgery applicants and at-large General Surgery applicants are encouraged to apply

The American Board of Surgery (ABS) seeks three residents who will act as advisors to the ABS Research Committee. The Research Committee will seek input from the resident advisors for decisions involving trainees, including what types of research would help improve resident training, appropriate topic selection, feasibility, and scope of resident surveys after the annual ABS In-Training Examination (ABSITE) and/or Vascular Surgery In-Training Examination (VSITE).

The resident advisors are expected to attend at least one ABS Research Committee meeting each year that is specifically designated to discuss any potential survey associated with the ABSITE. They are also encouraged to attend other meetings of the ABS Research Committee where their input would be welcome but attendance at these meetings is not a requirement.

The three residents will hold staggered 3-year terms such that one member of the group will rotate off each year. To facilitate this, the initial appointments will be as follows and the residents will come from the following groups:

  • A General Surgery resident selected and nominated by the Resident and Associate Society of the American College of Surgeons (initial 1-year term)
  • A resident in a Vascular Surgery training program (initial 2-year term)
  • An at-large General Surgery resident selected after a call for nominations (initial 3-year term)
