  • Understand strategies for screening for IPV among patients and colleagues
  • Define the means to refer and intervene for individuals who are in abusive relationships

More about Barbara Bass

Barbara Lee Bass, MD, FACS, is the Immediate Past President of the American College of Surgeons (ACS); professor and chair of the department of surgery, Houston Methodist Hospital; and the Co-Chair of the ACS Task Force on Intimate Partner Violence. This group was established in 2018 following the death of a faculty member, a victim of IPV. The task force seeks to raise awareness of the condition of IPV and to disseminate knowledge to surgeons regarding intervention and referral strategies, with the goal of eliminating this very common health care crisis.
