Presented by Barbara Bass, MD, FACS
This webinar reviews the epidemiology of intimate partner violence (IPV), strategies for screening, and tools for referral and intervention. The goal is to raise awareness of this problem among the surgical communities, recognizing that all sociodemographic groups are potentially at risk for IPV.
Barbara Lee Bass, MD, FACS, is the Immediate Past President of the American College of Surgeons (ACS); professor and chair of the department of surgery, Houston Methodist Hospital; and the Co-Chair of the ACS Task Force on Intimate Partner Violence. This group was established in 2018 following the death of a faculty member, a victim of IPV. The task force seeks to raise awareness of the condition of IPV and to disseminate knowledge to surgeons regarding intervention and referral strategies, with the goal of eliminating this very common health care crisis.
