This webinar engages attendees in a discussion about the need for mentorship to achieve their personal and professional goals and how to identify a mentor and have a productive relationship. Career planning and advancement are also discussed, emphasizing the importance of utilizing all available resources to become successful.

More about Nancy Gantt

Nancy Gantt is professor of surgery at the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) and co-medical director of the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center in Youngstown, OH. Dr. Gantt is the immediate past-president of the Association of Women Surgeons (AWS) and the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). She is an At-Large Governor of the ACS and is the past chair of the Clerkship Directors’ committee of the Association for Surgical Education. At Mercy St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, she serves as associate director of resident education and as the ACS COC Cancer Liaison Physician. Dr. Gantt is a Chicago native and earned her medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. She completed an internship, research, and general surgery residency at University of Pittsburgh Hospitals and Clinics.

Dr. Gantt served as M3 surgical clerkship director at St. Elizabeth Health Center for 20 years. As NEOMED M3 Curriculum Director, she currently supervises nine geographically separate core M3 surgical clerkships across the state of Ohio. Along with the other M3 Curriculum Directors, she maintains an integrated clinical curriculum and develops assessment and evaluation tools. As chair of the ASE Clerkship Directors’ committee, she developed the ASE Academy of Clerkship Directors to recognize the significant contributions of Clerkship Directors to medical student education.

One of Dr. Gantt’s primary roles—and passions—is to mentor and empower medical students and residents to find their perfect career. At NEOMED she is the Surgery Interest Group Advisor, AWS Medical Student Chapter Advisor and M4 Surgical Specialty Advisor. She has participated in formal mentoring of surgeons at all stages of their careers through the AWS and ACS. In addition, she is one of the founding surgeons of the Northeast Ohio Women in Surgery Initiative, which provides opportunities for education and networking for surgeons-in-training.
