One of Dr. Chaiet’s focuses has been to bring awareness of the LGBTQ patient care and diversity to his colleagues. This webinar will engage attendees in a discussion about the review of health issues in the transgender community, including how to identify and explain terms related to sexual identity and sexual practices; identify ways to create a welcoming environment for patients of all sexual orientations; and describe the role of surgery to complement hormone therapy and mental health services as a care team.

Scott Chaiet, MD, MBA, FACS, is a practicing physician with dual board certification in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. He is an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in the department of otolaryngology, and practices at Regional One Hospital in Memphis, TN. Dr. Chaiet also participates in research projects as an honorary faculty with the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the department of surgery, with studies in patient-reported outcomes after mandible fractures and in chronic facial paralysis.
He was elected to serve a two-year position on the LBGTQ Advisory Committee of the American Medical Association, and recently brought together a panel of experts on transgender health to discuss "Is your practice ready to care for transgender patients?" at the 2016 annual meeting of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Nashville, TN. By working with surgical organizations like the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Chaiet brings awareness of LGBTQ patient care and diversity to his colleagues.
