Newly Released SESAP 18 Advanced Offers In-Depth Educational Content for Practicing Surgeons

Surgical Education and Self-Assessment Program (SESAP®) 18 has expanded to include seven new modules of in-depth educational content. SESAP 18 Advanced addresses ongoing requests from practicing surgeons and surgical residents for more specialized and nuanced educational material, without sacrificing the breadth of general surgery topics provided by the core SESAP.

SESAP 18 Advanced is an outstanding educational program that is aimed at promoting expertise in seven critical domains in general surgery. The program has been especially designed to address complex and evolving concepts to promote lifelong excellence in surgery,” said Ajit K. Sachdeva, MD, FACS, FRCSC, FSACME, MAMSE, Director of the ACS Division of Education.

The program offers 332 case-based questions in:

  • Abdomen
  • Alimentary tract
  • Breast
  • Endocrine
  • Melanoma, skin, sarcoma
  • Surgical critical care
  • Trauma and emergency general surgery

SESAP 18 Advanced harnesses the innovative format and features of SESAP 18, with the addition of specialty sections titled “Controversies” that weigh the pros and cons of various options and allow for comparisons of peer responses.

“This new feature adds a dimension to SESAP that will be helpful to all general surgeons who find themselves involved with challenging patient problems where different approaches may be equally valid,” said Lorrie A. Langdale, MD, FACS, MAMSE, SESAP 18 Advanced Program Director.

SESAP 18 Advanced modules have the corresponding category or categories of SESAP 18 as a prerequisite. Modules may be purchased separately to allow greater flexibility for tailoring a package to practice needs. New for this edition is the option to purchase all SESAP 18 Advanced modules together at a 10% discount. SESAP 18 Advanced participants can earn up to 112 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ beyond those of SESAP 18.
