The ACS is offering surgeons two well-funded opportunities, and the deadline to apply for both is this Friday, August 30.
- The George H. A. Clowes Jr., MD, FACS, Memorial Research Career Development Award provides support for the research of a promising young surgical investigator. The award consists of a stipend of $45,000 for each of five years and is not renewable thereafter.
The application process is open to young surgeon investigators who are Fellows and Associate Fellows of the College; have completed an accredited residency in general surgery, vascular integrated surgery, cardiothoracic integrated surgery, or plastic surgery within the last 7 years; and have a full-time faculty appointment up to the level of assistant professor at a medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education in the US or the Committee for Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools in Canada.
- The Traveling Fellowship to Japan encourages international exchange of surgical scientific information. The ACS Traveling Fellow will visit Japan, and a Japanese Traveling Fellow will visit North America. The College will provide $10,000 to the awardee to meet all travel and living expenses.
The traveling Fellow will spend a minimum of 2 weeks in Japan and attend and participate in the annual meeting of the Japan Surgical Society, which will be held in Sendai City, April 10–12, 2025; attend the Japan ACS Chapter meeting during that congress; and visit at least two medical centers (other than the annual meeting city) in Japan before or after the annual meeting of the Japan Surgical Society to lecture and share clinical and scientific expertise with the local surgeons.
