Pediatric Cardiac Surgeons Discuss Changes in Heart Transplantation Outcomes

A recently published study in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons found that while pediatric patients undergoing cardiac transplantation from 2011 to 2022 were generally sicker and at higher risk of complications than patients 1986–2010, they had better outcomes. Two of the study coauthors, Mark Bleiweis, MD, FAC, and Jeffrey Jacobs, MD, FACS, explain why.
