The ACS Women in Surgery Committee (WiSC) has announced the call for nominations for the annual Dr. Mary Edwards Walker Inspiring Women in Surgery Award, to be presented at Clinical Congress 2024 in San Francisco, California.
The award will be presented in recognition of an individual's significant contributions to the advancement of women in the field of surgery and honors the accomplishments of Dr. Mary Edwards Walker, the first woman surgeon to serve in the US Army and the only woman to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor, the highest US armed forces decoration for valor.
All nominations must be submitted online no later than 12:00 pm Central on Friday, May 10. The awardee will be notified late June/early July. Visit the award web page to learn more.
The 2023 awardee was Sujana S. Chandrasekhar, MD, FACS, who is acknowledged s one of the leading authorities on sudden sensorineural hearing loss and has spearheaded groundbreaking research on the treatment of otitis media with an intranasal spray of surfactant. She has been an ardent supporter of women clinicians as a leader in several medical specialty societies.
