JACS Authors Discuss Study on Positive Influence of Medicaid Expansion in the South on Breast Cancer Care

Medicaid expansion has been shown to increase healthcare coverage, improve access to care, and lead to better health outcomes. However, little research has looked at the impact on a state-by-state basis for breast cancer care, especially in the Southern US, where some states have expanded but most have not. A new study from the Journal of the American College of Surgeons (JACS) indicates that Medicaid expansion in those states has led to earlier diagnosis, which is critical for long-term survival.
