They discuss Dr. Cohan's recent study, which used statewide medical records linked with genealogy data to evaluate the familial contributions to diverticulitis. The results indicate that diverticulitis has a significant heritable component, which may inform surgeons as they counsel family members about diverticulitis risk and can be used to develop future risk-stratification tools.
