Fellow Is President-Elect of ASCO

The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), an important member and collaborator with the ACS Commission on Cancer and the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC), has announced that surgical oncologist Elizabeth A. Mittendorf, MD, PhD, MHCM, FACS, FASCO, was chosen as its incoming president-elect.

She will become president-elect in June 2025 at the ASCO Annual Business meeting and then begin her 1-year presidential term in June 2026.

Per the ASCO new release, Dr. Mittendorf said, “I’m honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve as president of ASCO and help guide this multifaceted organization as we work to conquer cancer through research, education, and promotion of the highest quality, equitable patient care.”

Dr. Mittendorf is the Robert and Karen Hale Endowed Chair in Surgical Oncology and vice chair for research in the Department of Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital; director of the Breast Immuno-Oncology Program and co-leader of the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; and co-leader of the Breast Program for the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, all in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Mittendorf has an extensive history of clinical and research work with breast cancer, having led studies and received funding for a wide variety of initiatives.

She previously served on the ACS Cancer Research Program Cancer Care Delivery Research Committee, as well as filled several volunteer roles within ASCO.
