Prepare Your Patients for Hernia Procedures Using ACS Patient Education Brochures

June 11, 2024

Hernia surgery remains one of the most common surgical procedures in the US. Because patients typically go home the same day for inguinal, femoral, and umbilical procedures and within 2 days for ventral repair, education that supports informed choice and discharge care is critical.

The ACS patient education hernia series can help you with peer-reviewed content, including options for easy distribution in print, digital, or from your website. Available titles include:

  • Inguinal/Femoral Hernia – Adult (English, Spanish, Italian)
  • Inguinal Hernia – Pediatric
  • Umbilical Hernia – Adult (English, Spanish, Italian)
  • Umbilical Hernia – Pediatric
  • Ventral Hernia (English, Spanish, Italian)

Each eight-page color brochure includes images and is easy to understand, meeting the ACS informed consent and patient safety guidelines. Of patients using the brochures, 91% reported that they felt the brochures were more helpful than materials they received in the past, 88% said they felt better prepared to participate in their care, and 87% reported they felt more confident talking with their surgeon.

Additional patient education titles on common general surgery procedures and surgery-related topics are also available.

Purchase brochure packs for your practice in the ACS Store. Member pricing is available. For a paper-free alternative, subscribe to the digital ACS Patient Education Toolkit platform to electronically distribute ACS brochures and other content to your patients.
