ACS Mount Rushmore State Chapter Celebrates 70th Anniversary

The ACS South Dakota Chapter celebrated its 70th anniversary in Sioux Falls, April 8–9, with South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem declaring April 8 as American College of Surgeons Day and Queen Elizabeth II of England acknowledging their shared Platinum celebration.

Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken welcomed 87 attendees (43 Fellows, 14 surgical residents, 26 medical students, and four guests) to the event, which also marked the 22nd combined South Dakota/North Dakota Chapters meeting.

ACS First Vice-President Quan-Yang Duh, MD, FACS, gave the ACS Update and ACS Regent Kenneth W. Sharp, MD, FACS, provided an ACS Foundation and Chapter Initiative Fund update. The meeting also featured 26 scientific presentations, including a South Dakota/North Dakota resident trauma panel, a rib fixation debate, and the Surgical Jeopardy competition. Twelve Past-Presidents of the South Dakota Chapter participated in the 70th anniversary celebration.
