The ACS History and Archives Committee (HAC) has awarded its 2022–2023 Archives Fellowship to Julia Chavez of Chicago, IL. Chavez, a medical student at The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, will conduct research on the history of surgical ethics and the ACS’s role in developing ethical standards for surgical care. This annual fellowship will begin July 1, and Chavez will present her research findings at the History of Surgery Community Breakfast meeting at Clinical Congress 2023 in Boston, MA. She will receive a $2,000 stipend, funded by the Archives of the ACS and the ACS Foundation’s Archives Fund.
The HAC Archives Fellowship supports research in surgical history that uses the resources of the ACS Archives, which includes records of the ACS in Chicago and the Orr Collection in Omaha, NE.
