June 7, 2022

The ACS has posted a new article on the Resources in Surgical Education (RISE) web page: “Important Behaviors for Pursuing Professional Success in a Large Group Practice or Healthcare System," by Ronald Feinstein, DMD, MD, FACS.

The article is intended for surgical residents-in-training seeking a job opportunity in a large group practice or healthcare organization, as well as surgeons in a large group practice or healthcare organization. It describes some of the reciprocal behaviors and expectations for succeeding in these settings.

Learning objectives include understanding:

  • The Physician Compact as the basis of the reciprocal relationship between a physician and large group practice or healthcare organization
  • The reciprocal expectations between an individual and an organization’s leadership
  • The importance of:
  • Emotional intelligence and primal leadership
  • Being a giver and not a taker
  • Servant leadership
  • Organizational citizenship behavior
  • Physician engagement
  • Mentors and sponsors
