Each year, the ACS hosts two meetings that focus on the interplay between technology and surgery and surgical education: the Surgical Simulation Summit and Surgeons and Engineers: A Dialogue on Surgical Simulation Meeting.
This year’s events are coming up soon in Chicago, Illinois, with the Summit taking place March 20–21 and Surgeons and Engineers taking place immediately following, March 22–23. There is still time to register for both (separate registration is required).
The Surgical Simulation Summit offers unique educational and networking opportunities tailored for a multidisciplinary audience consisting of surgeons, physicians, simulation center directors, residents, medical students, anesthesiologists, allied health, and others involved in the delivery of simulation-based surgical education.
Clinical and nonclinical content will engage all attendees, encourage diverse perspectives, and foster a collaborative environment. From paper sessions, to workshops, to special interest groups, and a track designed for those who manage simulation centers, participants will gain knowledge and tangible skills to implement back at their centers.
The Surgeons and Engineers: A Dialogue on Surgical Simulation Meeting provides a novel forum for the exchange of challenges and potentially applicable technologies between surgeons, surgical educators, engineers, and scientists.
Surgeons and surgical educators will present the needs and challenges encountered in their delivery of surgical education. Academic and industry engineers and scientists will have the opportunity to present existing technologies—or those in development—that have the potential to address the presented challenges. The aim is to promote future collaboration between the surgical and engineering communities.
