Surgeon Discusses Validation of POTTER in Emergency Laparotomy

March 4, 2025

The Predictive Optimal Trees in Emergency Surgery Risk (POTTER) calculator, a widely used interpretable artificial intelligence risk calculator, has been validated in population-based studies and shown to predict outcomes in patients who underwent emergency general surgery better than surgeons.

Listen to Dr. Vahe Panossian discuss his recent Journal of the American College of Surgeons (JACS) article, “Validation of Artificial Intelligence-Based POTTER Calculator in Emergency General Surgery Patients Undergoing Laparotomy: Prospective, Bi-Institutional Study,” which validates the POTTER calculator as accurate and user-friendly. A free subscription to JACS is a benefit of ACS membership.
