ACS Regent Steven C. Stain, MD, FACS, recently was named president of the American Surgical Association (ASA). The ASA is the oldest surgical organization in the US.
Dr. Stain, a nationally recognized hepatobiliary and general surgeon, is the chair of the Department of Surgery at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts. He previously served at Albany Medical College in New York, as well as Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, both in Nashville, Tennessee.
Within the ACS, Dr. Stain has been Chair of the Board of Governors Executive Committee, a member of the ACSPA-SurgeonsPAC Board, a member of the Foundation Board of Directors, and an active participant in his local ACS chapters. In addition, he has served on the Board of Regents Finance Committee, Committee on Antiracism, Nominating Committee, and others.
