Urge Lawmakers to Reauthorize PAHPA Before the End of the Year

November 26, 2024

The ACS has sent a letter to House and Senate leadership urging them to swiftly reauthorize the Pandemic All-Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA) before the end of this year, and your help is needed to amplify surgery’s voice.

PAHPA was first enacted in 2019 to improve the national response to public health and medical emergencies and ensure readiness against emerging threats. Unfortunately, the critical programs included in this legislation expired in 2023 and have yet to be reauthorized.

The ACS encouraged Congress to urgently pass a 5-year PAHPA plan that includes language to reauthorize the Hospital Preparedness Program and improve coordination and surge capacity of regional medical operations, reauthorize and fully fund the MISSION ZERO grant program, and establish a pilot program for state and regional public health situational awareness activities.

Add your voice! Visit SurgeonsVoice today to urge your members of Congress to support PAHPA reauthorization.
