NIH Establishes Website for Self-Reporting COVID-19 Test Results

November 29, 2022

From the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, test results for infection have form the backbone of individual, governmental, and healthcare response to the evolving virus. However, infection numbers have generally relied upon tests performed at health institutions; despite the increased use of at-home tests, there was no unified mechanism for reporting their results.

To address that gap, the National Institutes of Health has launched a new website to allow users to anonymously report results of any brand of at-home COVID-19 test: https://makemytestcount.org/

As winter approaches and communities prepare for a potential increase in cases, the data derived from the new website may help to guide future decision making. Surgeons can share the website with patients to help them make sure their infection status is considered.
