The ACS is seeking an active participant in the ACS Communities to moderate the platform as Editor-in-Chief (EIC).
The Communities platform offers ACS members a private online forum where they can pose clinical questions, offer guidance, exchange resources, and connect with colleagues in any surgical specialty, career stage, and/or local chapter. Because the platform is private, conversations about patient care are discussed, with the patients de-identified and in a manner that allows education and development of medical knowledge/opinions.
Due to the rapid nature of postings on this platform, the EIC must be willing to spend approximately 1 hour per day, 365 days/year reviewing postings, making sure they adhere to the Communities Code of Conduct. The EIC also helps start conversations when activity is slow and promotes ACS content, such as articles in the Bulletin, in the relevant Communities.
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, diplomatic, and non-partisan. He/she also must be able to delicately handle necessary communication to authors of posts that have been moved due to posting in the incorrect Community or removed due to violation of the Code of Conduct.
Only Fellows of the College in good standing will be considered; we reserve the right to reject any candidates whose social media postings do not reflect the qualities described in the paragraph above or do not conform to the conduct described in the Communities Code of Conduct.
Interested candidates should submit the following by Monday, November 4, 2024:
Candidate interviews will take place virtually in November/December.
It is expected that the next Editor-in-Chief will shadow current EIC Tyler G. Hughes, MD, FACS, during the month of January and begin a compensated 1-year term, renewable annually, on February 1, 2025.
Submissions and inquiries should be emailed to executivedirector@facs.org.
