Learn about Recognizing, Addressing Intimate Partner Violence

October marks Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) Awareness Month, which brings attention to the violence that can happen anywhere in an intimate relationship. IPV is prevalent in every community and can affect anyone—including surgeons—regardless of age, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or nationality.

IPV is more than just physical violence. It can take on the form of emotional abuse, psychological trauma, and financial abuse, among others. The ACS recognizes the importance of addressing IPV, both for surgeons and patients. For resources and more information on IPV, visit the ACS IPV Resource web page. If you are experiencing IPV or know someone who is, consider using these resources for support:
