Help Morocco Earthquake Victims

September 12, 2023

On September 8, Morocco experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of at least 6.8, which devastated small communities of the High Atlas Mountains south of Marrakesh. At time of publication, the death toll had risen to more than 2,900, with hundreds of thousands more injured. During this early disaster recovery phase, the material needs for rescue and recovery efforts are at their greatest.

While there is no current role or mechanism for surgeons to travel and help in person, individuals who want to aid Moroccan disaster recovery can review the below list of organizations that are collecting material and monetary support to help earthquake victims:

The list was compiled by the ACS Health Outreach Program for Equity in Global Surgery, formerly known as Operation Giving Back. The ACS will continue to provide updates as they become available.
