Coming next month in JACS and online now: Have the recent modifications of operating room attire policies decreased surgical site infections? A NSQIP review of 6,517 patients

A review of OR attire policies published in an upcoming issue of JACS concluded that stringent attire polices do not reduce surgical site infection rates.

JACSSandra M. Farach, MD; Kristin N. Kelly, MD; Rachel L. Farkas, MD, FACS; et al participated in an American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP®) study, which reviewed operating room attire policies and concluded that stringent attire policies do not reduce surgical site infection rates. In particular, this includes complete coverage of hair and ears with bouffant hats.
