CoC Thanks Retiring Site Reviewer and CoC Leader Dr. Frederick L. Greene

After 25 years of service, Frederick L. Greene, MD, FACS, has retired from his role as site reviewer for the CoC. The CoC thanks and salutes Dr. Greene for his dedication to promoting the value of accreditation. His support and guidance towards standards compliance have been essential to assisting cancer programs with improving patient outcomes through research, education, and standardizing high-quality care.

“Dr. Greene has been an outstanding leader and his contributions to cancer care as part of this organization have been incalculable,” said CoC Accreditation Chair, James B. Harris, MD, FACS. “He has been a site reviewer for many years and has established a gold standard for the evaluation of cancer programs, while at the same time encouraging participation in the CoC. Personally, he has been a mentor to me, not only as a site reviewer but also as a teacher, helping me develop the skills to be a better leader in this outstanding organization.”

ACS Cancer Programs Medical Director Heidi Nelson, MD, FACS, praised Dr. Greene for his leadership in the CoC.

“Dr. Greene has been a steadfast contributor to the CoC for nearly three decades,” she said. “Not only has he served as a top-quality site reviewer and contributor to the NCDB manuals and CAnswer Forum Live, but he also has held most, if not all, the top leadership positions within the organization, including past-Chair of CoC. His steady hand at the helm has helped guide the CoC into its prominent role in the cancer world and he has trained many of the emerging leaders who will, no doubt, continue his work. Although Dr. Greene will be missed in his role as CoC site reviewer, he will always be welcome in the CoC.”

Connie Bura, Chief of Staff, ACS Executive Services, recalled first meeting Dr. Greene in 1989, when he started his work with the CoC and the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC).

“I have had the pleasure and privilege to work closely with Dr. Greene in my various roles as a member of the ACS Cancer Programs staff,” she said.  “As a CoC Site Reviewer, Dr. Greene has traveled the country on behalf of the CoC to support and advise hospital cancer programs. His work has directly impacted the quality of care delivered to patients with cancer. His leadership and his impassioned and steadfast commitment have greatly contributed to the success of these programs.”
