New Collaborative Aims to Reduce Impact of Climate-Driven Disasters on Cancer Care

March 19, 2025

In the March issue of the Bulletin of the American College of Surgeons, authors discuss record-breaking temperatures and wildfires that highlight the pressing challenge of climate change on public health. The CoC and the American Cancer Society are planning to launch a disaster risk management collaborative to better understand and address the impact of climate-related disasters on cancer care.

Patients with cancer are especially vulnerable to disruptions caused by extreme weather events, as shown in recent studies on hurricanes and wildfires. Efforts to improve disaster preparedness and response are crucial to ensure continued care and better outcomes for patients.
