New Study on CoC Standard 5.8 Published in Clinical Lung Cancer

April 6, 2023

In a new article recently published in Clinical Lung Cancer, A National Survey of Surgeons Evaluating the Accuracy of Mediastinal Lymph Node Identification,” authors from the ACS Cancer Research Program (CRP) surveyed cardiac, thoracic, and general surgeons assessing implementation of Commission on Cancer (CoC) Standard 5.8. The survey found that knowledge of mediastinal node anatomy may vary between surgeons practicing in different settings. The study recommends increased education regarding CoC Standard 5.8 to increase implementation and accuracy. The CRP, Cancer Surgery Standards Program (CSSP), and CoC will continue to drive education efforts surrounding CoC Standard 5.8 across surgical settings to increase implementation.
