Ohio Commission on Cancer (CoC) State Chair Michael Sarap, MD, FACS, authored a viewpoint article in the April issue of The Bulletin of the American College of Surgeons. In his article, Dr. Sarap, a general surgeon with nearly 4 decades of experience practicing in the rural community of Cambridge, OH, considered some of the unique advantages of being a contemporary general surgeon. Despite many challenges, including decreasing reimbursement, scope-of-practice limitations, and workforce issues, Dr. Sarap cited new technology, variety of cases, and strong relationships with patients and families as the reasons why he finds general surgery to be a rewarding field.
