The Commission on Cancer (CoC) hosted its Annual Spring Meeting in Chicago on May 18. Members received updates on the ACS Quality Campaign, National Cancer Database (NCDB), surgical standards, ACS Cancer Research Program evaluation of CoC standards, and CoC structural and committee changes. The morning breakout session discussions focused on the value of CoC accreditation to patients and the public, healthcare providers, hospital administrators, and payors and regulators. In the afternoon, members learned about ACS efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and again broke into small groups to discuss strategies for increasing equitable access to cancer care in all communities.
“We packed a great deal of information into a full day, in-person meeting, which led to robust discussions and innovative ideas and strategies for fulfilling the CoC’s mission of improving survival and quality of life for patients with cancer,” said CoC Chair Timothy W. Mullett, MD, MBA, FACS. “The issues and ideas discussed at this meeting will help to drive the CoC’s work in the year to come.”
