Hospital virtual Valdecilla (HvV) has launched a new education project, InndoVal. This medium-term project aims to train residents from surgical and clinical specialties in both human and professional values in order to contribute to a health culture centered on patients and their kin. The project will support training and developing the tutors as value guides and the residents as co-leaders of their own training self-process.
The HvV VR Project is ongoing. This project pursues the implementation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality so that surgical professionals can plan and visualize surgeries by immersing themselves inside organs, vascular structures, and tumors, in addition to being able to project these virtual models on patients to guide surgeries. HvV also continues to develop realistic organs with new materials such as hydrogels. Enhancing the training of complex and/or specific techniques and pathologies continues to be one of the priority lines of research and development.
HvV has published a new article in Cirugía Española with results from the assessment of the impact of fatigue due to incorrect night rest on the performance of a laparoscopic manual anastomosis.
On July 22, 2021, Professor Jacques Marescaux was promoted to the rank of Commander of the Legion of Honor by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace.
The French President praised the "revolutionary ideas" that have brought surgery "fully into the 21st century." This honorary distinction is a source of pride for the IRCAD. It also demonstrates the influence of French surgery throughout the world. Our warmest congratulations to Dr. Marescaux for his amazing career and for his vision of the surgery of tomorrow.
IRCAD welcomed H.E. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, for a very special occasion on May 19: The opening ceremony of our new auditorium, which has been named after him. This event is symbolic of the strong partnership between France and Africa, and it is just the beginning. Professor Jacques Marescaux named the auditorium after President Kagame in honor of the Rwandan President's virtues of rigor, hard work, courage, and contagious optimism, and because he strongly supports the development of digital technologies that are going to transform Africa, especially in the field of health care. Rwanda represents the light of Africa, and Dr. Marescaux believes that the genius of this country will enlighten the world one day.
