Biography

Dr Zibari is native of Kurdistan, Iraq and he came to USA immediately after high school dated back to May 1, 1976 as a refugee. He attended David Lipscomb University (1976-1980) as a premed student. Subsequently , he attended Med School at UTHSC-Memphis, TN. (1981-1985). He moved to Shreveport, LA and completed a formal Gen Surgery residency program at LSUHSC-S (6/30/1991). He was awarded Alpha-Omega Slpha , and also, he was institution wide Outstanding Intern and residents Awards 4 out of 6 yrs. Then he completed a format Solid organ Transplant Fellowship at Johns Hookins, Baltimore, MD (1991-1993). He was recruited by his mentor Dr John C McDonald in July 1993. Back to LSUHSC-S. He was promoted to professor with Tenure , Chief iof Transplant and Malcolm Fiest Chair in transplantation, Director of JCM Regionsl Transplant Ctr, WKHS. He is recipient of best refugee award from State Dept (1992), Eli’s Island Medal of Honor (2007), Louisiana Medical Society Volunteerism Award and in 2019 he received Louisiana Chapter of ACS Humanitarian Award. Dr Zibari’s clinical interest evolves around Abdominal Solid organ Transplant, HPB surgery and MIS including robotic complex HPB surgeries. He is very passionate about humanitarian Med outreach and Capacitu Building. Also, he is intrested in teaching. Dr Zibari has been doing Humanitarian med outreach and capacity building in Kurdistan, Iraq since 1st Gulf War and also has been doing outreach in Nicaragua, Honduras and in Philippines. AHPBA created Volunteerism and outreach award on his name. He has a very supportive wife ( Maysoon) who single handedly raised our their children. He is very greatul to America for giving him a chance to achieve all American Dreams during a time when he and his people of Kurdistan were prosecuted, subjected to chemical war fare, Anfal Campaign and mass graves by Saddam ‘s Regime. .... etc.,������������
