I am the Chair of Surgical Services at the Valley Health System in Paramus, New Jersey and a pediatric surgeon offering the full range of children's surgical services including neonatal, thoracic, general and emergency, and oncologic surgery for children. I am also the inaugural program director for Valley's General Surgery Residency Program now approved by the ACGME for recruitment. I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania (magna cum laude) in Philadelphia with an honors degree in History and a minor in English. Thereafter, I moved to New York to attend the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. After medical school, I trained in Surgery at the New York University Medical Center and returned to Columbia for Fellowship training in Pediatric Surgery. I remained on the faculty for several years before moving to the Atlantic Health System and Morristown Medical Center where I was the program director for the general surgery residency, completing nearly 20 years in that role as well as maintaining a vibrant and robust pediatric surgery practice. My involvement in the College began in the late 1990s as an instructor in the College's then annual Clinical Trials Course and continue in that role currently although the format has changed. I served as secretary and then president of the New Jersey Chapter of the ACS and now as a member of the Board of Governors. My interest is that surgical patients, particularly children but in my role as Chair, all patients have access to the right care at the right time and in the right place and that that care is of the highest quality and safe for the patient.
