Biography

I am currently the Director of the Intestinal Failure Program of Northwell Health, based at Northshore University Hospital on Long Island. In this role we specialize in the management of complex IBD patients with a strong emphasis on re-operative cases and patients with EnteroCutaneous Fistula Prior to that I served as Executive Director of Colorectal Surgery for AdventHealth in Central Florida and lead the premier Colorectal practice for the system. Until 2022, I was Chair of the Digestive Health and Surgery Institute. We provided a unique comprehensive colorectal care program with a special emphasis on minimally invasive approaches to the management of malignant disease. I have 25 years experience - both clinical and research - in the management of bowel cancer, especially rectal cancer. I am known internationally for my care of such patients. I have a very large personal experience of minimal access and trans-anal surgical techniques including TEMS and TAMIS. I have a special interest in technique for avoidance of colostomy and organ preservation for patients with rectal cancer including non-operative options. I also see many patients with inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's Disease and have special expertise in helping patients with entero-cutaneous fistula. I was a founding member of the OSTRiCh consortium which ultimately became NAPRC and I currently serve on the Executive Committee and as a site reviewer. I have published widely in the fields of cancer research and health services research.
