Dr Liane Feldman is the Edward W. Archibald Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery at McGill University and Surgeon-in-chief at the McGill University Health Centre. Dr Feldman’s clinical focus is minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery. Her research program focuses on improving quality of patient recovery after abdominal surgery; optimization of perioperative care processes; and technology-enabled assessment and improvement of operative performance. Dr Feldman is internationally recognized for her work implementing and evaluating Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) programs. Her ERAS program at the McGill University Health Centre was recognized as a leading practice by Accreditation Canada and she has been contracted by the Quebec Health Ministry to support provincial-wide implementation. Dr Feldman co-chaired the ERIN (Enhanced Recovery in NSQIP) collaborative at the American College of Surgeons to help hospitals implement care pathways to reduce complications and length of hospital stay. She is a past-president of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), is a member of the Board of Regents of the American College of Surgeons, and led the implementation of competency-based education at the Fellowship Council. Dr Feldman was a James IV Travelling Surgeon and received the Canadian Association for Medical Education National Award. Dr Feldman is author of over 300 articles, book chapters and videos and is co-editor of three books including The SAGES/ERAS Society manual on Enhanced Recovery for Gastrointestinal Surgery.
