Biography

Saman (Sam) Arbabi, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S., is a UW professor of Surgery in the division of Trauma, Burns and Critical Care at Harborview Medical Center. Dr. Arbabi received his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley. Subsequently, he earned his medical degree from the University of California at Davis, class 1992. He completed his general surgical residency and surgical critical care fellowship at the University of Washington, Seattle. He also completed several years as the NIH T32 fellow studying injury and inflammatory signaling. He completed his MPH at University of Washington and Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center in 2001. His research interests include inflammatory cell signaling, wound healing, surgical infections, critical care medicine, injury prevention, and surgical outcomes studies. He has mentored several surgical residents and clinical scientists in the art and science of medicine. He is currently the Medical Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Harborview Medical Center, Program Director for Surgical Critical Care Fellowship, and the Acute Care section head at the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center.
