Biography

Dr. Ted James is the Chief of Breast Surgical Oncology and Co-Director of the BIDMC Breast Care Center. He provides surgical care for patients with breast cancer, benign breast disease, and melanoma/soft tissue tumors. He is a faculty member of Harvard Medical School and serves as Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Surgery. He received his medical degree from Drexel University and completed his residency in general surgery at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in surgical oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Dr. James also earned a Master of Science in Health Care Management from Harvard University. He works with national organizations to improve quality in cancer care delivery. His research interests encompass studying clinical outcomes in cancer surgery and understanding mechanisms of tumor metastasis. Dr. James also volunteers and serves in leadership roles for organizations that provide support and advocacy for people with cancer.
