Sarder Abdun Nayeem, MB BS PhD FACS

I received MBBS from Dhaka Medical College in 1985, awarded Monbusho Scholarship of Japanese Govt. in 1987 and did Ph.D. in Surgery from Tokyo University in 1993. I was in the pioneer team which introduced laparoscopic surgery in Japan from 1990. I was one of the earliest to start laparoscopic surgery, introduced it as the pioneer laparoscopic surgeon in Bangladesh in 1991 and trained more than 300 surgeons in this field. I am the Founder and Chairman of Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital (JBFH) from 1993 and President of Association of Medical Doctors of Asia-BD Chapter (AMDA-BD) since 1992 and established AMDA-BD Complex at Gazaria, Munshiganj. I am the Member Governing Body of Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia (ELSA) since 1992. I am also the Founder of Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Bangladesh (SLSB) in 1998 and working as the President of SLSB from 2018. I was awarded FACS (Fellow of the American College of Surgeons) in 1999. I am the founder Chairman of Japan Bangladesh Friendship Foundation (JBFF) from 2008 and established 3 Nursing Colleges, Medical Assistant Training School (MATS), Health Science Institute, Secondary and Higher Secondary School and College etc. Again I am the Chairman of the proposed Dhaka Evergreen Retirement Homes Pvt. Ltd. (DERH), the first ever comprehensive geriatric home and hospital in Purbachal, Dhaka. I was awarded the ‘Resident Research Award’ by the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery in 1992. I received other academic awards like 'Award of Travel Scholarship’ from ISS Foundation in 2001, ‘Travel Scholarship’ from the 106th Japan Surgical Society Congress in 2006, ‘International Guest Scholar’ of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) for the year 2006. Again I received ‘Begum Rokeya Shining Personality Award 2006’, ‘Pallikabi Jashimuddin Memorial Award 2005, the status of ‘The Torchbearer’ for tremendous contribution in health sector in BD by North South University (NSU), Bangladesh in 2017 etc.
