Dr. MacKenzie is a Hepatobiliary and Pancreas Surgical Oncologist at the Royal Columbian Hospital. I graduated from Queen’s Medical School and completed general surgery residency at the University of Calgary, where I focused on surgical oncology and advance minimally invasive surgical techniques. During surgical residency, I developed an interest in liver and pancreas cancers, as well as surgical endocrinology. I pursued these interests by completing a Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary Surgical Oncology fellowship at the University of Toronto. After completing my fellowship, I developed and managed two Liver & Pancreas Surgical Oncology Programs in the United States. From 2007 to 2013, I was the Medical Director of HPB Programs at the Virginia Piper Cancer in Minneapolis, MN. and I maintained an academic affiliation with the University of Minnesota as an associate professor. In 2013, I joined the Kaiser Sunnyside medical Center, Portland, OR. as the lead HPB Surgeon recruited to develop and implement a new liver and pancreas surgical oncology program for Oregon Kaiser Permanente. I have expertise in surgical oncology, with specialization and interest in liver, pancreas, and bile duct tumors. I have an expertise in advanced minimally invasive surgery, including laparoscopic pancreas, liver, and adrenal surgeries. I have an interest and a track record for enrolling patients in clinical trials and innovation cancer treatments. I have extensive experience with the management and repair of bile duct injuries. I have a special interest in neuroendocrine tumors, adrenal Pheochromocytoma, and familial cancer syndromes such as M.E.N. I believe cancer care needs to be managed as part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team. I treat patients as part of the oncology program at the British Columbia Cancer Agency.
